A service area page targets a service in a specific market. Done well, it's the workhorse of local organic search. Done badly, it's the fastest way to fill a site with pages nobody reads.
What belongs on the page
- The service and the market in the heading, written naturally
- What's specific about doing this work here — climate, housing stock, permitting, seasonality
- The exact services offered in that market
- Proof from nearby work: photos, reviews, project details
- Coverage details: response times, neighborhoods, travel
- One clear call to action and a short form
How many to build
Start with the markets producing revenue today, then expand into adjacent ones you'd genuinely serve. Ten strong pages beat sixty templated ones every time.
Avoiding thin content
- Write the differences first, then the shared content
- Never spin the same paragraph with a swapped city name
- Add real local proof as you complete work there
- Prune or merge pages that never earn impressions
Internal linking
Link service pages down to their markets, city pages across to neighbors, and everything back to the primary service. That linking is a large part of why the structure works.
