City pages get a bad reputation because most of them are generated garbage. The format isn't the problem — the laziness is.
Research before writing
- What people in that market actually search for
- Who currently ranks and what their pages contain
- Local specifics: housing age, weather, regulations, seasonality
- Your own history in that market
A page structure that works
- Heading naming the service and city
- A short opening that proves local knowledge
- Services offered there, linked to the main service pages
- Local proof and photos
- Neighborhoods and nearby towns covered
- FAQs specific to that market
- A single, obvious call to action
The test
If someone who lives there reads it and can't tell you've been there, rewrite it.
